Annoying Push Notifications? Useful Tips to Turn Them off

push notifications

Push notifications bring on your screen messages and information from apps on your device and websites that you have visited. They might seem useful when you first see them, but as their number increases, they become frustrating.

So, let’s see what these are and how you can get rid of them.

Learn to turn off push notifications

Push notifications are short messages on electronic devices. They intend to get our attention for updates, reminders, or promotions. When users receive them, they are accompanied by a sound and/or vibration. So, if you receive tens or hundreds a day, they could be extremely annoying.

Let’s see now how to get rid of them. On your computer, open the browser that you usually use, and follow these steps:

1.            Go to the “Site Settings”.

2.            Choose “Notifications”.

3.            On the list that opens you can see the websites that are allowed and those that are not allowed to send you notifications.

4.            Remove the websites that you would no longer want to receive them from, by

Of course, there is one more way to do this, but it comes with some risks. These messages require JavaScript to work. So, if you disable it from your browser, you get rid of them. But this might mean that you would also be missing essential content on some websites.

Keep your privacy… private

To send push notifications, websites use cookies and even location information. As they usually also determine saving and processing cookies, you should remember to delete them regularly.

Of course, there is the option to disable cookies in your browser, to prevent them from saving your data. But this would mean that websites would not recognize you automatically. So, you will have to insert your credentials every time you want to log in.

You can also use some browser extensions to anonymize your activity. This would make it more difficult for websites to harvest data about what you do online.

Now, that you know how to deal with them, push notifications should never bother you, again.
