Security Tip: 3 Most Common Cyber Security Mistakes

Security tip 3-Most-Common-Cyber-Security-Mistakes

Security tip: The Internet is an incredibly interesting place, providing users with an endless supply of knowledge, information, and myriads of learning opportunities but it can also be a dangerous place. In today’s digital landscape, keeping your computer system safe and secure should be one of your top priorities.

One of the serious consequences of this digital age is the increased risk of cyber-attacks. From identity theft and ransomware to corporate espionage, cyber criminals are continuing to up the ante and there has never been a greater risk of falling victim to a cyber-attack. Considering this, through this post, we’re going to explore some of the common cyber security mistakes you should avoid making in the global era of cybercrime.

Security tip # 1. Ignoring Software Updates

Outdated/older versions of the operating system, browsers, and apps are the doorway for cybercriminals to enter your system network. Device manufacturers or developers regularly release software patches to fix security vulnerabilities as well as improve the functionality. Ignoring such updates leave the devices vulnerable to a wide range of cyber attacks. Hence, it is advised to configure the automatic updates feature to make sure you have the latest security updates installed regularly.

Security tip # 2. Using Weak Passwords

Most of us create an easy-to-remember password and use the same across several accounts. An important point to note here is that what’s easy for us to remember is also easy for others to guess. Cyber criminals can easily brute force weak passwords to gain access to a user’s account (or anything that is password protected). Hence, it is advised to create strong and hard to remember passwords to prevent any unauthorized access.

Security tip # 3. Not Using Anti-Virus Software

It won’t happen to me; this attitude can often result in bad cyber security habits, leaving the person or organization vulnerable to a wide range of cybercrimes. In today’s fast-paced technology landscape, having reliable antivirus software installed on a laptop or desktop computer is a must. It allows users to scan and protect PC against viruses, ransomware, spyware, or other next-gen malware threats.

To Sum Up: Avoid Common Cyber Security Mistakes

Increased cyber risk is real. And, believe it or not, the Internet can be a very dangerous place for everyone but avoiding the aforementioned common cyber security mistakes can help you steer clear of cybercriminals’ sneaky tricks.
