cyber security vulnerabilities

Cyber security vulnerabilities: Technology has seen a massive increase in the last few decades and online security is one of the main concerns.  It comes with a lot of benefits but also adds a multitude of threats and dangers.

Computer security threats are constantly evolving with individuals, corporate, businesses, and organizations as their main targets. The range of computer security threats can range from a simple comment to a highly devastating attack.

Staying aware of network vulnerabilities and cyber-security threats offers an effective way to prevent them. So, without wasting any further time lets put a magnifying glass on some of the preventive measures that can help you mitigate Cyber Security Vulnerabilities in a better way.

Top Cyber Security Vulnerabilities with their Prevention Tips

  1. Password Theft

Password theft can make anyone’s heart run a million miles. It involves stealing login credentials and other confidential information to conduct illegal activities. There are several ways in which hackers can steal your passwords and other personal data. They can either gather it from unsecured websites or use Brute-Force attacks to crack common passwords.

Prevention: Use of a robust password protection mechanism along with 2 Factor authentication will keep you safe in most of the cases. Use complex and strong passwords for your accounts and also avoid using the same passwords for multiple accounts.

2. Phishing Attack

This is another type of cyber attack that deploys email. Hackers send a legitimate-looking email embedded with a malicious link or attachment to multiple users. A single click on the link can result in a compromised system and give away sensitive and confidential information.

Prevention: Being cautious and vigilant is the best way to fight a Phishing attack. If you don’t feel good about a mail avoid opening it. Be aware that official websites and organizations never ask you for your personal information.

3. Malware

Malware is the most common form of a cyber-security threat. It has been there since the beginning and continues to grow constantly. There are multiple types of malware including Ransomware, Spyware, Worms, trojans, etc that can cause damage to your device resulting in unusual behavior. Stealing passwords, encrypting files, unauthorized access, deleting files, spreading itself are some of the annoying activities carried by malware.

Prevention: Strengthening the security walls of your device is the best defense against malware. The use of strong and powerful antivirus software can help you manage the task easily. In addition to this, you should also follow basic computing hygiene practices such as:

  • Never download applications from third-party sources.
  • Avoid using public connections.
  • Never disclose your bank details and other information on unknown websites.
  • Use a strong VPN connection.

4. DDoS

Commonly known as a Distributed Denial of service, this method involves exploiting a target server and overloading it with traffic. This results in an unresponsive and slow server.

Prevention: To stop a DDoS attack you must be able to identify and block all malicious traffic that is being diverted on your server.

Although this is not an extensive list, there are several other cyber-security threats in existence. Stay attentive to guard your device against destructive PC threats.
